After 51+ years at The University of Texas at Austin and nearly 30 years in administration, Dr. Hackert has begun limited Phased Retirement and no longer has a research lab or is he taking students.  Since 2012 he has been active in 3D printing and promoting the benefits of crystallography and biochemistry to society by giving lectures around the world and creating a number of public displays on the UT Austin campus.
